Western Cape
Close protection in Cape Town and the Western Cape.
SPS Cape Town operations are led by the SPS Operations Manager, who is based in the Western Cape. Close protection, journey management and security risk consultancy across the Cape metro and the Winelands.
Operating context
Cape Town is a visitor city, and that changes the problem.
A large proportion of protective work in Cape Town is for people who do not live there: executives in for a board meeting or a conference, families in for a season, international visitors moving between the Atlantic Seaboard, the Winelands and the airport. They arrive without local knowledge, on schedules that other people know in advance, and they are visibly not from there.
That produces a specific set of exposures. Arrival and departure at Cape Town International, where the timing is externally known. Movement between the city and the Winelands or the Overberg on routes with long uninhabited stretches. Accommodation booked in a name that can be searched. Publicly announced events with a published attendance list.
The counterpart is that Cape Town rewards planning unusually well. Distances are short, the road network is simple, and the difference between a well-planned visit and an unplanned one is mostly work done before the aircraft lands.

Regulated work, in Cape Town as everywhere else.
SPS is registered with PSIRA under number 4523389. Every officer deployed in Cape Town is confirmed as correctly registered and graded for the role before deployment, and any armed role additionally requires firearm competency and licensing under the Firearms Control Act, administered through SAPS.
Officer conditions of service follow the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the sectoral determination for private security. That is a client exposure as well as an SPS one: a client who contracts a provider with non-compliant employment arrangements inherits part of the problem.
How SPS covers Cape Town
- Cape Town operations are led by the SPS Operations Manager, who is based in the Western Cape
- Inbound work is planned before arrival, so the reception and the first movement are not improvised
- Movements are monitored off-site from the GSOC, independent of the team on the ground
- Medical capability is available through Specialized Medical Solutions, a separate company within The Quagga Group
Questions
Close protection in Cape Town, commonly asked.
Does SPS actually operate in Cape Town, or only from Gauteng?
Cape Town operations are led by the SPS Operations Manager, who is based in the Western Cape.
We are visiting Cape Town for a week. Is that too short to be worth it?
No, and short visits are among the most common Cape Town engagements. The value is largely in the planning done before arrival: reception, accommodation handling, routing and a medical plan.
Can you cover movement to the Winelands?
Yes. Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Somerset West are frequently part of a Cape Town itinerary, and the routes out of the metro are exactly where journey management earns its cost.
Do you provide protection for events and public appearances?
Yes, including advance work on the venue, arrival and departure planning, and a protective posture matched to whether the appearance is publicised.
Can you coordinate with a client’s existing Gauteng arrangement?
Yes. Where a principal already has protection in Gauteng, the Cape Town leg is planned as a continuation of that arrangement rather than a separate one, under the same accountability.
Do you work with film and production companies?
SPS provides protective services and journey management to corporate and private clients in Cape Town, including for production-related movement. Specific client relationships are not published.
